Iceland is mostly made up of arctic desert punctuated by mountains, glaciers, geysers, fjords, hot springs, volcanoes and waterfalls. It is about 103.000 square Kilometers, making it the 18th largest island in the world and the 2nd largest in Europe. Iceland is also apart of the mid-Atlantic ridge causing it rise above sea level. The many fjords located around its ridges are where most settlements are situated due to its inhabitable center which is a cold combination of sand, mountains, and lava fields.
